Lord Sebastian Coe
Lord Coe is Chairman of the London Organising Committee for
the Olympic Games. Seb headed the British bid which finally
triumphed over the favourites France in Singapore. Even
Le Figaro described the double Olympic gold medallist as
having achieved a remarkable feat in leading the London
2012 bid to victory. It was a perfect display of his sporting,
political and business skills - and his dogged determination.
Alongside a delegation of sporting luminaries, businesspeople
and schoolchildren, Seb showed the importance his team placed
on supporting athletes, encouraging more young people to
take up sport and regenerating a run-down, multi-ethnic
region of the capital. Above all, he inspired the IOC with
his vision of the legacy the London Games will leave for
future generations.
One of the greatest British athletes of all time, Seb set twelve
world records at four distances. He won four gold and three
silver medals in European Championships and Olympic Games.
After retiring from competitive athletics, Seb entered politics
as Conservative MP for Falmouth and Cambourne. He served
as PPS to Michael Heseltine and as a Government Whip, then
as Private Secretary to William Hague. He is a long-standing
global advisor to Nike, and founder of the Seb Coe Health
Clubs.
