| Example Activities Bamboo
Drop Your team place 1 finger each on the underside of a 4ft bamboo
cane. The task is very simple; lower the cane to the floor without ever removing
your finger… Mission impossible! This incredibly simple
task with have your team laughing and communicating within seconds. Rope
Square All members of your team except one will be blindfolded.
This person becomes the group instructor, and must guide the team along a 20ft
rope and, holding the rope at waste height, must try to create a perfect square.
Listening and communication skills are put to the test. Trust
Circle A member of your team stands in the middle of a very tight
circle of people. Closing their eyes and keeping their body taught, the member
will be gently rotated and swung by their team mates inside the circle. This is
a relaxing sensation, and really develops trust within the group. Lead
The Way Your group is divided into pairs. One person from each pair
is blindfolded and must be lead by their partner around a simple assault course
using voice only. A daunting task that helps to bond the group. Eye To
Eye Contact All delegates are split into two groups standing in lines
facing a partner. The groups start 5 metres apart, and each pair must make and
maintain eye contact. After a short time the lines are asked to take a step forward,
still maintaining eye contact, and other step, and so on. It sounds simple, but
in reality this is very difficult for most people. Sure to cause laughter! Sitting
Bull The entire group must make a circle, each facing anti-clockwise
towards the back of the next person. The group is then told to move in, closing
the circle as they do so, until everyone is as close as possible to the person
in front of them. Then, very slowly, each person must sit on the lap of the person
behind… until everyone is sitting on everyone else’s lap… seemingly
no-one is taking the pressure of the group! This requires control and extreme
group team work. Every team is as strong as its weakest link, and this will require
everyone to pull together! Feeling
Good! Very
simple and fun, but equally testing and very good for confidence development.
The entire group are told to simply relax and walk slowly and comfortably in silence
around a pre-determined area. After becoming comfortable with this they are instructed
to smile and make eye contact with the people that they pass, still in silence.
Again after a while the instruction changes… now they must shake hands with
other people, still maintaining eye contact and a smile… very difficult
not to laugh… as the final straw they are allowed to break the silence with
a big cheery ‘Hello how are you today!!’. This develops individual
confidence to the full and will again really help to bond the group. |
