Throughout 2019 we’re going to feature a monthly ‘Firebird Focus’ blog written by a member of the team, which will delve into something they love about events, showcase their favourite venue, or give an insight into their role.
Kicking off our first ‘Firebird Focus’ blog is one of our Event Managers, Rachael… She has handpicked Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow to showcase this month, so we spent a little while chatting about why she loves working there and reminiscing about some memorable events…
What was the first event you remember working on at Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow?
One of the first events I ever attended onsite with Firebird way back in 2013, was at Radisson Heathrow! It’s one that will always stick in my mind, as it was a beautiful Alice in Wonderland theme, there were giant blossom trees in the room, a Cheshire Cat at the back of the stage, one of our bands RPJ provided the music for dancing and we even had a stilt walking Alice!
What’s your favourite thing about working at the venue?
I can’t narrow it down to one - my first thing has to be the staff! I absolutely love working with both the sales and operations teams at the venue. In the lead up to an event and onsite, they are all a pleasure to work with. My second favourite has to be the versatility of the Commonwealth Suite, the largest function space at the hotel. Over the past 6 years I’ve seen so many themes and different styles of events in that room – Narnia, Around the World, Circus and Venetian to name just a few…
What’s your most memorable event at Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow?
We recently worked with a corporate client to transform the Commonwealth, Atrium and Royal Suite for a Circus themed event. A chill out room was created in the Royal Suite, which included a stunning circular LED bar and chesterfield furniture. The iconic Atrium was beautifully lit with moving heads and flood lights, which were accompanied by custom gobos panning the walls and giant coloured balloons were dotted between themed food stalls.
The Commonwealth was the main attraction with a red and white draped ceiling along with some fantastic lighting production. A huge chequered dance floor, red staging with trim and custom circus scene backdrop, plus elephant and lion props. We also supplied an additional 9m LED bar serving guests in the main room, plus distressed oil drums as poseur tables.
There was a whole array of additional entertainment and side stalls for guests to enjoy too - it was so much fun! Keep your eyes peeled for a full blog feature on this event in a couple of months’ time…
Next up in the ‘Firebird Focus’ blog spot is Ian, who will be featuring our chosen charity The Children With Special Needs Foundation and how we are planning to fundraise for them this year…
