With 2018 in full swing and the Firebird team re-assembled and ready for another crazy year in the world of events, we thought it would be fun for our clients to find out a bit more about the people that make up our wonderful team!
Kicking off the first of this year’s meet the team blogs is the one and only Paul Griffiths - Managing Director of Firebird Events...
How did your career start in events?
When I was 11 my Dad brought back some disco lights from a work fashion show… A couple of months later I was asked if I could run an 8th birthday disco. In those days I recorded songs onto cassette and swapped them as I talked through the microphone! By the time I was 17 I had other DJs that worked for me and I worked my way through University as a Student Union DJ. During the holidays I worked for a full event management company and knew that this was what I wanted to do. The day I left University I started my own events business and that’s how it all started!
What’s your favourite tipple?
A good G&T, or if it’s a long night a Vodka Redbull!
Why do you love working in events?
I love the creativity of events – no two briefs are the same… Working with a wide variety of clients and then seeing the event being such a success is so rewarding. We get to see the most glamourous corners of the world and have a great team to share this time with.
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Either U2, Joshua Tree or uplifting funky house!!
What do you think you bring to the team?
I think, above all, the team know how passionate I am about our company and our events. I hope this inspires them in the office and at the events themselves. Our jobs can be extremely stressful and with very long hours, so it is critical that we keep a good life balance. I hope that I also contribute to ensuring that our working environment is as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
None really… My hardest chore is clearing the leaves in our garden – which is insane, ongoing and never ending! But actually, I enjoy spending time with my little helpers – the kids!!
If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?
I think our Firebird 15th Birthday celebration pretty much topped all parties of all time!! A dream party would be somewhere exotic and warm, with no budget restrictions, for anyone who loves to party… How about the Maldives?!
