This month we are featuring our witty and super-helpful Operations Manager Will Coles.
Will oversees the operational side of our events, creating load lists and allocating vehicles and staff to events – he is a logistical mastermind! He also gets involved with quoting for and booking in events, along with creating 3D visuals of event spaces. Due to his can-do attitude he is also often called upon for general IT support too (not one of his favourite tasks mind)!!
How did your career start in events?
I studied music production at university which definitely has some overlaps with what I do now. From there, I just sort of fell into it and it happened to be something I enjoy.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Washing up! I don't know what it is about the combination of hot water and old food, but I wash my hands A LOT after I wash up. I've got a lot of respect for my dishwasher, it saves me a lot of stress!!
Why do you love working in events?
No two events are the same and it's great to see people enjoying something that we have created. There are also a lot of creative aspects to it, which I like.
Are you a morning or evening person?
I'm definitely a morning person. I'm usually in bed by about 10.30 every night and I get up really early. That doesn't mean that I'm good at getting started with the day early though, I just have lots of time to make my breakfast and enjoy a few cups of tea.
If you didn’t work in events where do you think your career would have led you?
Probably something to do with creative design. I toyed with the idea of getting into the video game industry and spent some time designing a few simple games of my own, but an opportunity came up at Firebird and I have never looked back!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn to play the piano. I just don't have anywhere near enough patience. It's a really expressive instrument and I like the diversity of it. I listen to Claire Du Lune a lot to help me focus when I'm stressed - it would be great to be able to play myself.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like to read a lot. I finally got a Kindle this year, after nearly filling the whole house with books. I wouldn't say there's any genre in particular that I like to read, I'm willing to give anything a try. I also watch a lot of American Football.
Well that’s Will in a nutshell! Next month we will be featuring Craig, our Senior Production Manager…
