When a tourist posted a clip of Bill Callaghan’s London tour to YouTube, and racked up 2 million hits, the Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London and ‘stand-up historian’ became a celebrity.
Enlisting into the Royal Army Medical Corps at the age of seventeen, Bill excelled in basic military training and was graded 'above average' as a Nurse and Paramedic who eventually became the youngest Sergeant in his Corps, touring the globe.
Bill retired in 2002 after twenty-three years of service. He was sworn in as "a Member of the Sovereign's Bodyguard, a Yeoman Warder of HM Tower of London, of the Yeoman of the Guard in Extraordinary" - better known as a Beefeater - a position he proudly holds to this day.
As an after dinner speaker he’s unique. He talks with passion and knowledge about historical London, and his laconic humour has been known to cut down every known name associated with the capital!
Bill also volunteers as a Crewman on the RNLI's busiest lifeboat - Tower Lifeboat - on the River Thames in central London and has raised thousands of pounds for the charity through various fund raising activities.
