Nina Conti

perfect timing and quick wit

Famed for her foul-mouthed ‘side-kick’ Monkey (Monk), Nina has won numerous comedy awards for her writing, acting and ventriloquism. Her perfect timing, quick wit and hilarious asides, make her show dynamic and fun. Her sophisticated intelligence and playful style suits a wide range of audiences, and Monk can be as clean or as rude as you would like him to be!

An experienced corporate act, and one of our most in demand, Nina has performed with Monk, and sometimes her other puppets, for a varied range of companies – from finance to pharmaceuticals, and technology to publishing, plus numerous private parties.

Whilst an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Nina was inspired to try her hand at ventriloquism. Finding comedy came naturally, she shot to fame by winning the BBC New Comedy Award in 2002, only a few months after hitting the stand-up circuit for the first time.

A regular headliner, she’s been Live at The Apollo, and taken numerous shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – including Complete and Utter Conti – which won her a BARRY Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2008. Her following shows, Evolution – 2009, Talk to the Hand – 2010 and Dolly Mixtures – 2010 were all sell-outs, and her latest re-imagination Nina Conti is Monkey – 2018 has received rave reviews.

Nina’s broadcast work includes the BBC Radio 4 Sony Award winning series Claire in the Communityand a starring role in BBC Radio 4’s Sneekiepeeks. She’s appeared in several television shows, including the BAFTA-winning Black Books, and played the lead in HBO’s comedy series Family Tree, alongside Chris O’Dowd.

In 2014, Nina fronted two documentaries for BBC 4. Make Me Happy: A Monkey’s Search for Happiness – nominated for two Comedy Awards – where Nina took Monk into the world of new age alternative therapies. She also directed, and produced A Ventriloquists Story: Her Masters Voice – nominated for a BAFTA TV Award – in which Nina took the bereaved puppets of her mentor, Ken Campbell, on a pilgrimage to Venthaven – the resting place for puppets of dead ventriloquists.
