Test your business acumen...

A fun, enterprising challenge, inspired by The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den, where teams must demonstrate their business acumen in a bid to impress the boss and get hired! Teams begin by inventing a new product. The brief can be anything from a new household invention, game, office accessory – the only limit is their imaginations! To make their product a success, they must excel against their competitors in some business themed challenges:

INNOVATIVE INVENTIONS – Using the materials provided, they must create a working prototype of their new invention.

BATTLE OF THE BRANDS – Teams must turn their product into a brand, giving it a catchy name and logo. They must identify their target market to ensure that their choice of logo and colours will appeal to the right audience as well as having “shelf appeal” against its competitors!

BUSINESS PLAN – Teams must then decide on how they intend to market their product, where it will be sold and how they will attract customers.

COMMERCIAL BREAK – Teams use the props and costumes provided to compose a 30 second advert.

SHOW ME THE MONEY – Resources are priced, so teams will need to negotiate the best deals and keep an eye on their costs. They must then calculate a Recommended Retail Price that will make them the best profit.

PUNCHY PROMOTIONS – As a bonus task, teams can also produce promotional products by painting their own branded mugs, T shirts and tote bags.

PITCH PERFECT – Teams then pitch their product

Apprentice Team Building Activity FAQs

What is the Apprentice Team Building Activity?

Our Apprentice Team Building Activity is a lively, competitive challenge inspired by popular business programmes such as The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den. Your corporate team will be tasked with inventing, branding, marketing, and pitching an original product while demonstrating their creativity and commercial thinking.

This corporate team activity combines friendly competition with plenty of opportunities for colleagues to collaborate, making it an entertaining alternative to more traditional team events.

How does the Apprentice Challenge work?

We divide participants into teams before setting them the challenge of developing an exciting new product. This could be a household invention, office accessory, game, or something completely original.

Teams then progress through a series of business-themed tasks covering product development, branding, marketing, budgeting, advertising, and pitching. It is one of our team building experiences designed to keep everyone involved from beginning to end.

How long does the Apprentice Team Building Activity last?

The activity can run for approximately 1.5 to 3 hours, giving you flexibility when planning your corporate event. The exact format can be tailored to suit the time available and your unique group requirements.

Whether it forms the main event or sits alongside a meeting or conference, this corporate team activity can fit neatly into a busy company itinerary.

How many participants do you recommend?

At Firebird Events, we recommend our Apprentice Challenge for groups of 10 to 100+ participants. This broad capacity makes it suitable for smaller departments as well as large company-wide events.

For organisations comparing team building companies for a larger workforce, the scalable format makes the Apprentice Challenge an especially practical choice.

Where can the Apprentice Challenge take place?

The Apprentice Challenge is an indoor team building activity, making it ideal for corporate events throughout the year. An indoor setting also allows your teams to concentrate on designing, creating, and presenting their ideas without worrying about the weather.

The experience can also be delivered internationally, giving businesses greater freedom when organising overseas meetings, conferences, and incentive events.

What happens during the Innovative Inventions challenge?

Teams receive materials to transform their big idea into a working prototype. This is where imagination, practical thinking, and collaboration come together.

Nobody needs to be a professional designer or inventor. The aim is to get creative, combine different strengths, and develop an invention that teams can confidently take through the rest of the challenge.

What is involved in Battle of the Brands?

Every great product needs a memorable identity. Teams create a catchy product name and logo while considering their target audience, choice of colours, and all-important shelf appeal.

Do teams have to create a business plan?

Teams will consider how their invention will be marketed, where it could be sold, and what will persuade customers to buy it.

It is a great opportunity to put commercial thinking into practice while working towards a shared objective. As a corporate team activity, it can reveal some impressive hidden talents within your workforce.

What happens during the Commercial Break challenge?

Teams get the chance to become advertising creatives by producing a punchy 30-second advert for their invention. Props and costumes help bring each concept to life and encourage participants to have fun with their performance.

It is often a memorable part of the event and adds plenty of personality to the competition.

Does the challenge include budgeting and negotiation?

During Show Me the Money, resources have prices attached, so teams will need to negotiate effectively, control their spending, and calculate a Recommended Retail Price that could generate the best profit.

For businesses considering working with team building companies such as ourselves, this mixture of creativity, negotiation, and financial thinking provides much more variety than a single-task activity.

Can teams create promotional merchandise?

Punchy Promotions can be included as a bonus task, allowing your teams to produce branded promotional items such as mugs, T-shirts, and tote bags.

It is another chance for colleagues to demonstrate their creative flair while developing a complete identity around their imaginary product.

Do teams have to pitch their ideas?

The pitch is where all their hard work comes together. During Pitch Perfect, teams will present their final product, branding, and marketing strategy to the judges before performing their advert in the finale.

The pitch creates a fantastic finish to the experience and gives every team the opportunity to sell the strengths of its creation.

What skills can the Apprentice Challenge encourage?

The challenge encourages communication, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, negotiation, budgeting, presentation skills, and commercial awareness. Different stages naturally suit different personalities, giving participants several ways to contribute.

That variety is one reason team building experiences like the Apprentice Challenge we offer can be so effective at bringing your colleagues together.

Do participants need previous business experience?

Not at all. The challenges are designed to be accessible and entertaining rather than requiring specialist business knowledge. Participants can contribute ideas, creativity, practical skills, or presentation confidence.

The emphasis is on working together and having fun while experiencing some friendly corporate competition.

Why choose Firebird Events for an Apprentice-themed team building event?

At Firebird Events, we offer an energetic format that brings together competition, creativity, and collaboration in one memorable event. Rather than simply watching from the sidelines, participants have something meaningful and entertaining to contribute throughout the challenge.

When comparing team building companies, choosing an experience that actively involves your whole group can make a significant difference. With flexible group sizes, an indoor format, and international possibilities, our Apprentice Challenge is an exciting choice for organisations seeking memorable team building experiences that get colleagues thinking, creating, laughing, and competing together.
