A unique and awe-inspiring experience

Be part of a unique and awe-inspiring experience with the HAKA. This traditional and ancient Maori Tribal dance can be performed as a powerful conference energiser.

Upon entering a room, you won’t suspect a thing, until the doors close and you hear the roar of ‘the call’… The loud and exciting tribal sound of the HAKA leader. Our HAKA performers will then perform the overwhelmingly powerful HAKA to much acclaim. Within moments of our team finishing their demonstration, we will have you up and ready to learn and perform the HAKA, as one unified team. Building towards a powerful performance, you’ll go head-to-head in a bit of healthy tribal competition. When the battle for supremacy is won, it’s time to come together as one tribe for the final HAKA.

The HAKA dance uses hands, feet, legs, body, voice, tongue and eyes to convey the challenge, welcome, exultation, defiance or contempt of the words. It is disciplined, yet emotional. More than any other aspect of Maori culture, this complex dance is an expression of the passion, vigour and identity of the team.

Haka Workshop For Events FAQs

What is a Haka workshop?

Our Haka Workshop is a powerful, interactive experience that introduces your group to the energy and impact of the traditional Māori Haka. Led by experienced performers, your team will learn how movement, voice, and expression combine to create an unforgettable group performance.

It is an exciting choice for corporate team building events when you want something considerably different from a conventional workshop.

What happens during the Haka workshop?

Your experience begins with an attention-grabbing performance from our Haka performers. After witnessing the Haka first-hand, your team will be encouraged to get involved, learn the movements, and practise together. The workshop builds towards healthy tribal competition before everyone reunites as one group for a powerful final Haka.

How long does the Haka workshop last?

The Haka Workshop typically lasts between 20 and 40 minutes, making it easy to incorporate into conferences, meetings, and larger corporate events. Its compact format makes it particularly effective as a conference energiser or as part of a wider programme of company team building activities.

How many participants do you recommend?

Our Haka Workshop is suitable for groups of 10 to 250 participants. This flexibility means smaller teams can enjoy a highly engaging shared experience, while large corporate groups can create an incredibly impressive performance together.

Is the Haka Workshop suitable for corporate team building?

The Haka naturally encourages people to work together, communicate, and contribute towards one collective performance. For organisations searching for memorable corporate team building events, it offers an energetic way to bring colleagues together and create a genuine sense of unity.

Why choose a Haka Workshop over other company team building activities?

The combination of performance, participation, and friendly competition makes this experience stand out from many traditional company team building activities. Rather than sitting and listening, your team becomes part of the action, creating an exciting atmosphere that can leave a lasting impression long after your event has finished.

Do participants need any previous performing experience?

No previous dance or performance experience is necessary. Our performers lead your team through the experience, helping participants understand the movements and build towards the final performance. The emphasis is on joining in as a team and embracing the energy of the occasion.

What does your team learn during the workshop?

Your team will explore how the hands, feet, legs, body, voice, tongue, and eyes contribute to the Haka and its expression. Bringing these different elements together requires focus and teamwork, making the workshop an engaging addition to corporate team building programmes.

Can the Haka Workshop be held indoors or outdoors?

The Haka Workshop can take place indoors or outdoors, giving you excellent flexibility when planning your event. However, you will need sufficient performance space for every participant to stand and extend their arms comfortably without hitting anyone around them.

What equipment is required for an indoor Haka Workshop?

For indoor events, access to a screen, projector, and laptop is helpful for the PowerPoint slides we provide. Where these are unavailable, flip charts or whiteboards and pens can be used instead. For groups of more than 30 participants, a lapel or headset microphone for the lead performer, PA system, and sound operator are required.

Are there additional requirements for large groups?

For events with more than 100 participants, a raised stage approximately 60cm high, three metres deep, and five metres wide is required. For groups exceeding 200 participants, rifle stage microphones are required to capture the sound of the Haka performance effectively.

What facilities do the performers need?

A suitable changing room and refreshments should be available for our performers. Planning these simple requirements in advance helps our team prepare effectively and ensures your Haka Workshop runs as smoothly as possible.

Can the Haka Workshop be used as a conference energiser?

The experience works particularly well as a powerful conference energiser. The dramatic opening performance quickly captures attention, while the interactive workshop gets delegates standing, moving, and communicating. It can provide a welcome burst of energy between presentations or conference sessions.

Does the activity include friendly competition?

Once your participants have begun learning the Haka, they will have the opportunity to go head-to-head in some healthy competition. Afterwards, everyone comes back together as one unified group for the final Haka performance.

Can the Haka Workshop help bring colleagues together?

The format is designed around performing as one unified team, making it an excellent option for corporate team building. Your colleagues share the challenge, energy, and excitement of creating something together, providing an experience that can encourage connection across departments and roles.
