Ice Carving Workshop FAQs

What is an ice carving workshop?

Our Ice Carving Masterclass is a hands-on experience that gives your team the chance to transform a block of ice into an impressive sculpture. Fun, creative, and suitably challenging, the workshop combines expert instruction with plenty of opportunities to collaborate.

For businesses searching for memorable team building days out, ice carving offers something refreshingly different from everyday workplace activities.

How does the ice carving workshop work?

Every masterclass begins with an introduction and safety briefing. Our head sculptor demonstrates the correct techniques and starts carving alongside the group, explaining the challenges of working with ice and how to overcome them.

Once everyone feels comfortable, your team will begin carving. Our sculptor remains available throughout to offer practical advice, encouragement, and expert guidance.

How long does the ice carving activity last?

The activity itself lasts approximately one to two hours. This provides enough time for your team to learn the basic techniques, get creative, and complete their sculptures without the experience feeling rushed.

Its convenient duration also makes ice carving one of our more flexible company team building activities, whether you are planning a standalone event or adding it to a wider corporate programme.

How many people can take part?

Our Ice Carving Masterclasses are suitable for groups of approximately 10 to 200+ guests, making them an excellent option for both smaller teams and large corporate events.

Guests work in pairs, so we recommend bringing enough participants to create a lively selection of two-person teams. For larger team building days out, the format allows lots of guests to get involved simultaneously.

Do participants work individually or in teams?

Guests work in pairs to create their ice sculptures. Working closely together encourages communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and creative decision-making.

This collaborative format is one reason ice carving works so well as one of our company team building activities. Your colleagues have a shared goal while enjoying an experience that feels completely removed from their normal working day.

What ice sculptures can your team create?

There are eight sculpture designs to choose from: a penguin, snowman, stiletto, Christmas tree, male torso, female torso, horse head, and sea horse.

Bespoke sculptures can also be arranged upon request, giving you the opportunity to make your event even more personalised.

Do you need previous ice carving experience?

No previous experience is required. Our masterclass has been designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of ice carving before they get started.

Our experienced sculptor demonstrates the techniques, explains the limitations of the ice, and remains available throughout. Complete beginners can therefore concentrate on enjoying the challenge and creating something they are proud of.

Is ice carving a good corporate team building activity?

Ice carving combines creativity with communication and teamwork, giving your colleagues a shared challenge with a tangible result at the end.

If you want company team building activities that encourage genuine interaction without feeling like another day at work, this is an engaging choice. There is also plenty of scope for friendly competition between pairs.

What makes ice carving different from other team building days out?

There is an immediate novelty to being handed a block of ice and discovering how to turn it into a sculpture. The unusual format can help break down barriers and encourage colleagues to interact in a relaxed setting.

Our masterclasses make team building days out creative, hands-on, and memorable, providing plenty to talk about long after the carving has finished.

Is the ice carving workshop held indoors?

The activity is designed to take place indoors, making it a practical option throughout the year and removing much of the uncertainty associated with weather-dependent team building days out.

Water collection trays are supplied, and waterproof floor mats can also be provided when required.

What equipment is included?

Our masterclasses include instructors, water collection trays, a selection of ice chisels, and protective clothing, including gloves and aprons.

We provide the specialist essentials needed for the carving itself, helping to make these company team building activities straightforward for event organisers to incorporate into their plans.

What does the venue need to provide?

The venue will need to provide one table for each team, ideally measuring approximately 3ft x 3ft. Alternatively, 6ft x 2ft tables can be used. One additional table is also required for our instructor.

Our team can advise on the practical requirements ahead of your event so that the space is suitably prepared.

How much set-up time is required?

Approximately one to two hours should be allowed for set-up before the masterclass begins. This gives our team time to prepare the equipment, ice, and work areas ready for your guests.

Factoring this into your venue schedule helps everything run smoothly from the moment participants arrive.

Is the activity safe?

Safety is an important part of every session. Your experience begins with a dedicated briefing covering the correct handling of the equipment before any carving starts.

Protective gloves and aprons are provided, while our instructor supervises the session and offers guidance throughout.

Why choose Firebird Events for an ice carving masterclass?

Our Ice Carving Masterclass brings together expert guidance, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of fun in one memorable package. Your team gets to learn an unusual skill, work closely with their colleagues, and see their efforts transformed into a finished sculpture.

For organisations looking beyond conventional company team building activities, ice carving delivers an inspiring challenge with real visual impact. It is creative, sociable, and refreshingly different: exactly what a great team experience should be.
